  1. INSTALLING IBM WEBEXPLORER JAVA DEMO

  3. Hardware and software requirements
  4.  
  5. The Java-enabled WebExplorer demo requires the following software:
  6.  
  7.      <*> OS/2 Warp, OS/2 Warp Connect, or OS/2 Warp-J
  8.      <*> TCP/IP Version 3.0 for OS/2 (included with OS/2 Warp Connect) or
  9.          TCP/IP Version 2.0 for OS/2 (with the latest Corrective Service
  10.          applied and APAR fix PN 71501)
  11.      <*> The Internet Connection for OS/2 (included with OS/2 Warp and OS/2
  12.          Warp Connect)
  13.      <*> In addition, you will need the 1Beta1 Java code for OS/2 Warp.

  15.          Note: The Java code requires a HPFS drive with at least 15MB free
  16.          space. In addition, a 486 class machine with 12MB of RAM and is
  17.          recommended.

  19.          Follow the installation instructions to get this code from the IBM
  20.          Centre for Java Technology.

  22. Installation instructions
  23.  
  24. To install the Java-enabled WebExplorer demo:
  25.  
  26.      1. Get the 1Beta1 Java code for OS/2
  27.          Register and download from the IBM Centre for Java Technology. They
  28.          provide instructions to unzip, install it, and modify your CONFIG.SYS
  29.          file.

  31.      3.Get the WebExplorer Java code
  32.          Register and download the WebExplorer Java demo code.
  33.  
  34.      4. Unzip the demo code
  35.          Open an OS/2 window, go to the drive and directory where you
  36.          downloaded the WebExplorer demo zip file, and unpack the code using an
  37.          unzip program.

  39.          For example, If you downloaded the WebExplorer zip file to d:\webex:
  40.  
  41.          * At the command prompt, you would enter: d:
  42.          * At the [D:\] prompt: cd webex
  43.          * At the [D:\webex] prompt: unzip web60311.zip
  44.  
  45.      5. Install the WebExplorer demo
  46.          At the prompt, type install .
  47.  
  48.          From the Instructions for Installation window, click on Continue .
  49.  
  50.          From the Install window, use the Options check boxes to indicate if
  51.          you want to:
  52.  
  53.           Update CONFIG.SYS
  54.              Leave this box checked so that the installation procedure will
  55.              automatically update your CONFIG.SYS file to include the
  56.              directories where you install the Java-enabled WebExplorer.
  57.           Overwrite files
  58.              If this is the first time you are installing this demo code, leave
  59.              this box unchecked. (You can use this box when reinstalling to
  60.              indicate if you want to be prompted before any WebExplorer demo
  61.              product files are overwritten.)

  63.          Click on OK .

  65.          From the Install - directories window, do the following:
  66.  
  67.          *Click Select all to select the WebExplorer Java components.
  68.          *Optionally, change the default installation directories.
  69.          You can change the path for the WebExplorer demo code to wherever
  70.          TCP/IP is installed, but be sure to keep it in it's own separate
  71.          directory. All the WebExplorer Java directories must be on the same
  72.          drive where you installed the 1Beta1 Java code.

  74.          Click on OK .

  76.          From the Installation window, click on Exit to complete installation.

  78.      6. Reboot your system
  79.          Because the installation procedure changed your CONFIG.SYS file, you
  80.          need to reboot your system before starting the Java-enabled
  81.          WebExplorer demo. Look for its icon in the Internet Connection folder!
